Farming Practices
Yadkin Station Farms’ delicious natural fruits and vegetables are grown with a concern for the things we all value most — the health of our families, the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the future for our children and generations to come.
As a fifth generation farming family, we view our role as stewarts of the land. Our Pledge describes how we incorporate the following environmentally friendly methods to grow healthy crops.
Sustainable Agriculture
The term sustainable agriculture means an integrated system of plant and animal production practices having a site-specific application that will, over the long term:
- Satisfy human food and fiber needs
- Enhance environmental quality and the natural resource base upon which the agricultural economy depends
- Make the most efficient use of nonrenewable resources and on-farm resources and integrate, where appropriate, natural biological cycles and controls
- Sustain the economic viability of farm operations
- Enhance the quality of life for farmers and society as a whole
Polyculture
Polyculture is an imitation of the natural ecosystem. We incorporate this natural principle of Sustainable Agriculture through:
- Crop Rotation
- Intercropping
- Companion Planting
- Benefitial Weeds
Organic Farming
We are a Certified Naturally Grown farm. The CNG Standards are no less strict than the USDA National Organic Program rules, the primary difference is the cost burden to farmers. We encourage our customers to come checkout our farm to see how we are upholding Our Pledge.
